Proper Mosquito Larvae Control

If you are concerned about mosquito larvae control on your property there are many things you can do to ensure the problem is not bad. These things include finding areas of growth, eliminating the areas, and using preventative measures to ensure the larvae do not return. Mosquito larvae control is simple to do.

Mosquitoes begin their life stage in a standing body of water. Without a standing body of water, mosquitoes will not survive or turn into adults. The larvae eggs grow in water. The water can include standing swimming pools, mud puddles, marshes, water in your yard, and much more. When water is present for several days at a time, mosquitoes will breed and can be a nuisance to you. There are things you can do to practice mosquito larvae control.

The first thing you want to do is find where the anopheles mosquitoes are producing. All you have to do is find bodies of water. Believe it or not, even a cup of water left outside in a child’s playhouse could be harvesting mosquito larvae. Anything that can hold water when it rains is a potential breeding ground. These areas need to be recognized. Water containers like plant holders, bird feeders, and even dog dishes are targets. Obviously, you don’t want to use household products or home remedy pest control in a bird feeder to kill mosquitoes because you would kill the birds too. With containers filled with water that is constantly being used, you should clean them out on a regular basis. A swimming pool should be properly maintained and circulating. The circulation and cleaning will ensure mosquitoes are not breeding in your pool.

Once you have located areas providing breeding grounds, you can begin microbial control of mosquito larvae. If you have a pond nearby or even a koi pond on your property, it is important to ensure you are not breeding mosquitoes. There are microbial organisms and fish you can buy that actually feed on mosquito larvae. If you put these in a pond they will feed on the mosquitoes. This will ensure the mosquitoes will not make it to adult life. These are not harmful to your koi fish and other life in the pond.

There are household products you can buy to secure your property and practice mosquito larvae control. Many people like to install misting systems to spray their property. These can be installed through sprinkler system mosquito control. These systems spray chemicals or pesticides to kill mosquito larvae on contact. If you consider a misting system for the microbial control of mosquito larvae it is important to research the active ingredients and determine which product is best for you. Also find out about the regulations with your state for use of misting systems. Some pesticides are outlawed in specific states.

Mosquito larvae control can be quite simple if you practice a few things. Ensure you are not providing breeding grounds on the premises. If there is any standing water that is not being cleaned out on a regular basis, chances are good mosquitoes are breeding in it. Be sure you clean out water dishes for animals, keep the pool maintained, and use fish that feed on larvae in ponds.
